Hi! Would a 40 gallon work for a group of 3 females? Thanks!

I wanted to add it's a front opening terrarium type tank with a mesh lid. But I may use a different lid so I can easily hand things from the top if I'm able to use this

Hello! A 40 gallon would be an okay size as it would provide adequate floorspace for 3 female mice. Something you may or may not know about tanks in general is they are heavy! It takes 2 people to move a 40 gallon, or one extremely strong person! Just something to keep in mind.
Also, as for hanging items from the lid, anything hung will no doubt be loved however taking the lid off then becomes a slight problem when a little mouse nose pops out of a toy or hammock! I estimate my lids come off 5 or more times per day/night which would potentially disturb a sleeping mouse during the day and provides an opportunity for escape at night if I had items attached to the lids. So instead I use command hooks attached to the sides all around to secure hanging items and they work well!
Hope that helps! Good luck on getting your girls! Don't hesitate to ask more questions if you too.

Yep 40 gallons is great! If your looking to hang things from the mesh just make sure it is strong because they can chew through fine mesh and hanging toys will give them access to it.
