I might be getting a male mouse and I want a good cage, anyone have any good options that are relatively affordable? I’m extremely new to mouse care and I probably look like an idiot on her but I want to give my future mouse the best life possible.

Is a bin cage good enough? I have a hamster in a bin cage and he’s doing great, but I know mice like to climb and barred cages provide that the best from what I’ve heard.

You could always make a bin cage with barred/meshed sections on the side and a mesh top with large enough mesh to hang things but small enough to keep them inside.

Hi there! Just wanted to say real quick bincages do make excellent cages for mice. Altogether in our rescue I have 11 male mice housed separately, each in the 50 gallon Sterilite Stackers, which are about the biggest storage bins sold here and give 760 inches of floor space. They are the size of a 40 gallon breeder tank but a few inches taller, and much less expensive and a lot less heavy! They are also the equivalent of the Prevue 528 cage. That particular cage didn't work well for our first rescued mouse, only because in spite of it being crammed with enrichment he chewed the bars every time I walked by! He LOVES his bincage though and so do all the others. We have the lid meshed and secured by grommets so there is plenty of ventilation but I do suggest using the 1/2 inch size mesh because the smaller size doesn't give as much air flow. We don't have the sides of the bin meshed because that would just be an invitation. If you would like pictures and "how to" instructions I would be happy to post. Let me know
